The Register has another good analysis piece on identity cards. This one takes the idea and runs with it for a long way, from both an usefulness point and an economic point. It points out the cost of such a system (not to mention some of the technical difficulties) and wonders about just how useful that it would be within the period of a generation. Not that I think that the government will listen to us. We're too committed (following both the US and EU down this route), but at least we'll be able to say "I told you so" when it all goes horribly wrong.
