Well, it seems that Tony Blair is retreating on the concept of top-up fees, after facing revolt from not only students and parents, but from within his own party. To be honest, how could he have not seen how unpopular that it was going to be from the start? I mean, I could have told him that, and I don't exactly claim to have my finger on the pulse of British society!

The Guardian also has an article by Anthony Giddens referring to a 'third way' for funding universities in future, which I found very interesting. It may not appeal to my idealistic sense, but it is, IMO, better than the alternatives.
