Robinson Crusoe

By Daniel Defoe

Rating: 3 stars

At heart, this is a morality tale with some adventure thrown in. The carefree and somewhat debauched Crusoe goes through several adventures before being shipwrecked on his now famous island and coming to God.

Obviously there are issues for the modern reader: the attitude to slavery and black people (all characterised as ‘savages’), the belief in the superiority of Europeans etc, but it’s still an entertaining book for that.
