I have written several pieces of software over the past four or so years. You can find everything that I have finished and think would be useful to other people here. There are two Windows 9x programs written in Visual Basic and a Java utility class written to help me while I was writing my Java programs. I'm also mirroring a program called DeCSS.
These programs may not be as good as some of those programs that can
be found in places such as Download.com, but they do have a few advantages over some of
these.
- Firstly, they are totally FREE, none of this shareware stuff. If you do use them though, it would be nice to receive an email.
- Secondly, the total archives are very small. Instead of something like Logocycler, that is over 1.5Mb in size, the RandomLogo zip file is just 235K including the vbrun300.dll file, or just 9K (!!) without it, the program consists of the randomiser and a configuration editor. Together, these files take up about 24K. Envelope Printer (including the runtime dll) takes up just 231K. RajCal takes up about 26K.
- Thirdly, they keeps any changes to their own directory, there's no changes to the Windows Registry or anything. The only file that gets put anywhere other than the installation directory is the Visual Basic 3 runtime DLL, this gets placed into the Windows\System directory, but the chances are that you already have this, so it isn't exactly a major change. I admit that you need to add a line to your autoexec.bat file to run RajCal, but unfortunately I can't find any way around this.
- And, of course, everybody knows the benefits of Java: the (in)famous "Write once, run anywhere" logo.
